Alex de Carvalho

Alex develops social media initiatives and networks from business planning to launch. He is currently developing a worldwide community for physicians, VoxMed.com. He is the co-founder of Scanbuzz, an online service for healthcare brand monitoring. A Professor at the University of Miami, School of Communications, Alex teaches a course on social media. Based in Miami, Florida, he organizes The Startup Forum, Social Media Club, BarCamp, and Mobile Monday meetups and conferences for South Florida new media professionals, and is a founding member of RefreshMiami. Alex obtained an MBA from Insead in Fontainebleau, France, and speaks English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Finnish.

Previously, Alex directed business development efforts at online media and mobile con­tent companies and co-founded a leading European e-mail marketing provider. Prior to that, he advised blue-chip companies on strategy and organization, while at a major consultancy.

Agustina Prigoshin was born in Argentina and raised in Miami. She studied print journalism at Florida International University and worked in the field for two years at Onboard Media and the Miami SunPost before changing her career to public relations. While changing writing styles took a little bit of practice, building relationships with journalists came with ease. A networker at heart, with a passion for the media industry and the desire to tell people’s stories convinced Agustina that public relations is where she’s supposed to be.

Her first role as a publicist was working in a firm that caters to the special events industry. She learned how fun her job can be while also learning to expect the unexpected and always be ready to think on your toes and jump into action when events don’t go as planned.

Being a fast learner and with a hunger for greater challenges, she switched to a bigger firm that specialized in luxury lifestyle products.

Again, she craved greater opportunities and took a chance on starting her own PR firm called Koa PR. For almost three years, she has been running her own company and has worked with a wide variety of clients ranging from Hollywood directors and actors to local companies and even a few startups.

Her professional life became more exciting with the wide acceptance of Social Media. She became the Co-Founder of Social Media Club South Florida, educating the local community on the different ways Social Media enhances their industries.

Agustina has several side projects that she works on; one is called the Orange Events Calendar, where she highlights local business and charity-related events. Another project is called Meet South Florida, where she interviews the fascinating people that make up the South Florida community.

David Suarez, MBA is the managing director, strategy/branding for (add)ventures, a multidisciplinary brand communications firm. With more than 20 years of management and media experience, Suarez plays an integral role in the ongoing expansion of (add)ventures’ Miami office and South Florida operations.

Before joining (add)ventures, Suarez was founder and owner of Interactive Training Solutions, LLC, a cutting-edge business communications company that specialized in research-based corporate training, team building and executive coaching services. Suarez’s leadership earned him distinction as one of the Top 50 Entrepreneurs in South Florida, named by The South Florida Business Leader magazine in 2010. Previously, Suarez played an integral role at Miami-Dade College, evolving and expanding the school’s academic offering as a faculty member at the School of Business and founding director of the Media Services Department.

Suarez is a graduate of New York University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. During his time in Finance, Ulises studied Finance, Marketing and Management at Florida International University (FIU) and launched his first web based startup – Kolegio, a college social network.
